Making sure your rental meets the new Healthy Homes standards

From 01 July 2019, the first of the Government’s new Healthy Homes standards will come into effect, with the standards scheduled to increase up until 01 July 2024.

There are a total of five standards, designed to increase overall housing levels in New Zealand with a view to improve health and wellbeing of the population at large. The five standards cover the following areas: Heating, Insulation, Ventilation, Moisture Ingress & Drainage and Draught Stopping.

What you need to know

For healthy homes finance up to $10,000

  • Borrow up to $10,000 (see below for higher amounts).

  • Make no repayments for 90 days.

  • From $165 unsecured establishment fee, $10 monthly service fee.

  • From 17.95% p.a. interest rate (1.39% per month).

  • Up to 3-year repayment term. The first three months are payment free, then 33-months of monthly payments (if required).

  • $95 early settlement fee waived if repaid within 90 days.

For healthy homes finance over $10,000

  • Borrowing over $10,000 requires a caveat to be loaded (no need for bank approval or Solicitors fees).

  • Make no repayments for 90 days.

  • $226 Caveat fee.

  • From $165 secured establishment fee, $10 monthly service fee.

  • From 17.95% p.a. interest rate (1.39% per month).

  • Up to 3-year repayment term. The first three months are payment free, then 33-months of monthly payments (if required).

  • $95 early settlement fee waived if repaid within 90 days.

Once funding is approved, funds are provided directly to the borrower (landlord) to cover the cost of tradespeople and/or materials.
